ICS are pleased to announce that after months of months of development and engineering, we have now produced and manufactured replacement worm and nut gear for the Jaguar Mk1 and Mk2 manual steering boxes.
The 'call to action' on ICS was really brought about by the frequent enquiries and requests for new worm and nuts from enthusiasts, trade and specialist garages, but also a number of the racing fraternity who ideally needed a close ratio option.
The core objectives of the project was therefore to deliver a new worm and nut solution that improved the steering of the Mk1 & Mk2's in relation to the number of turns lock to lock (standard is around 4.25) and to provide a new supply for ageing and worn steering boxes.
The work and effort involved was made possible through our experienced ex-Burman Engineers and the detailed knowledge of the drawings that would be required and the necessary tooling and components, which grew as we embarked in the process.
It wasn't just a case of simple reverse engineering, although we were fortunate enough to have a pristine Mk1 Close Ratio box provided to us by our friends at Hurst Park Automobiles
The list of components that were required to make the solution possible are as follows:
A small bit of technical details here - from the Jaguar manuals the ratio for a standard box was 20.3:1 A special order was 17.6:1 and it even talks of a 15.7:1
The ICS Close Ratio Worm and Nut is 16.9:1, resulting in around 3.25 turns lock to lock when its fitted to the car.
